ASSIGNMENT D8.1

Plan A

UNIVERSITY

University has many benefits for me , giving me a more in depth knowledge of music and also I will have access to facilities to increase my communication skills as i will be surrounded many other students . I will be able to branch out and learn about different roles and jobs in industry ( music accountancy, music therapist , music marketing manager etc )

Finance - Uni will mean I will have to be responsible with money as I will be away from home experiencing life as an official adult for the first time . I will have to learn budgeting skills and money management being able to save money nights out and being able to buy essentials . On average in the UK £150-250 a student spends per week on living expenses , transport and social activities .

STUDENT FINANCE :
Students not living in London will get i up to £9706 per year
Tuition loans go straight to the uni , everyone is eligible for this ( £9250/ year )
Maintenance loans paid for a half term to your bank (amount depends on where you study and household income )
REPAYING:
Repayment comes out of your monthly earning once you earn £25000
9% of what you earn over £25,000 is what you’ll pay back

BIMM  Bristol - pop music performance and music business

This course will help me look at the more entrepreneurial side of the music business . Bristol is also convenient for me as i am familiar with the area and isn't too far for me to travel so i could take the train  and  be able go home on the weekends.

The course will help me enhance my music performance whilst gaining a detailed knowledge on the music industry and could lead to potential careers in live performance,  the recording industry , music and media and music education.

I went to the bimm bristol open day to look around , it was only two buildings wich is good for a more intimate learning environment. There are studios , mac rooms , recording rooms , dj booth , green screen room for making music videos , library with music based books . You can book out rooms until 11pm (9 on the weekends .)
if i do the joint honours degree i will miss out on the band performance in the first year however will still get lots of chances to perform ( bimm live etc )
Bath spa

At bath spa i am interested in the commercial music course . We went to bath spa as a college trip and i wrote some  notes about what the uni offers.
The uni has lots of connections , this is good as it gives me a better chance to get good opportunities and talk to people who are established within the music industry . Each course has a low number of students this will mean the education is more intimate and will make it easier to make friends .
Unlike BIMM i will be surrounded by a variety of students instead of just music ones .
Bath is in a good location as well as not being too far from home it has busses that run every 15 minutes to get into town
They have multiple enrichment activities and clubs i can get in to.
Around 25% here make music as their soul income this means with enough dedication i could make music my soul income

This is a bookable space

SHORT TERM GOALS :
If I were to go to uni I would first take a gap year I feel as though taking a gap year is very important , it’s a good time to settle into the world a bit before continuing with an academic education and  learning more about yourself  , giving you a clearer self Intuition before you start uni and make any long term decisions.
During my gap year I would like to travel by myself (hopefully Spain)  so I can learn about about travelling abroad and how it works and to experience a whole new environment on my own .
I would maybe take a working holiday , or get an internship  , furthermore , i would like to increase my Spanish speaking ability maybe taking some kind os course in it .  If planned well this will also look good on my my cv and make me look responsible.

MEDIUM TERM GOALS :

LONG TERM GOALS :

NottinghamTrent University
Broadcast Journalism

This course will prepare me for a career in the media and creative industries. This degree works well for what I am currently studying it will train me for the radio, help Me with my interviewing skills and document stories and

PLAN B
Apprenticeship
An apprenticeship will allow me to earn money whilst learning practical skills and also gaining experience in my chosen sector. It’s a hands-on learning opportunity that could even lead into a career. And disadvantage of an apprenticeship is that there are not many near by so I might have to move to a more urban area where there is lots of work ( London , Manchester , bristol .)
I’ve been researching different apprenticeships on websites like GOV.Uk and have found things that I might be interested in like music therapy , production apprenticeship and also things in other fields like law and business I took a bit of an interest to.

Short term
Finding a good apprenticeship in an area that I like . If far away from home I will have to figure out accommodation and potentially picking up a part time job alongside my apprenticeship for some extra money.
I hope  to finish my website, release more music and make a music video to have a good basis as a musician before I start my apprenticeship.
Medium term
During my apprenticeship I will continue to find and play gigs in the area developing my own original stuff . I will also continue to audition for any acting/theatre opportunities in the area .
long term
From my apprenticeship I hope to get a place at a good job maybe directly form the apprenticeship or I go and apply for one  but I would hope whatever I do in the future allows me to travel to different places.

Here is my cv :

This is an important document that will give a brief introduction of myself to employers and universities . It is important as it tells them about my skills and attributes I have acquired over my life , education I have , personal details and other necessary details about myself.

Plan C

Freelance ( self employment )

FREELANCER -
My plan C is to Be a free lancer being a free lancer  means you are your own own business . It tends to be more stressful this way as you have more responsibility on your shoulders as your dependent on yourself. You are responsible for your finances tax and National Insurance NI . Your work isn't as secure as you are working from contract to contract finding your own work and means to make money. You will be paid directly for you’re  work and negotiate your contracts . Being a freelancer you have control over your own work load get to mould a business that suits you by choosing your own clients . The issues with free lance work is that because its your own business your personal assets can be at risk , your on a constant hunt for wrk therefore you don't really get holidays and are burdened by tax worries .

You can use media such as YouTube to advertise yourself , spread knowledge and vlog about your life . With commitment and success this is a good way to build up a fan base and develop yourself as an influencer / musician .

I will have to be multi skilled to conduct my own business enhancing skills I already have and learning new ones .
POTENTIAL CAREER PATHS : Ideally my dream career would be to be an established touring musician playing large-scale gigs and festivals , this would involve a lot of media savvy such as learning about youtube and video editing one of my current inspirators is a youtuber called Annie dang who creates her youtube videos( typically music based )  and talks about her devlopmemt as a creator and as well as making tutorials on  songwriting and producing does things on different topics too !
This is a video I watched of hers and It taught me a lot about releasing music as an individual artist; I learned about distribution services such as distrokid! This is vital for a freelance musician to know as it allows you to release music to things like Spotify, amazon, tiktok and more.

Making contacts is also a very important part of freelancing .Some contacts I have made already include Mark stidston, Mayors, strode theatre productions and more.
Contacts are one of the most important things to get good opportunities having soft skills such as friendliness and communication go hand in hand with this.

SHORT TERM:
My short term goals are to finish my website and write and release more music to have a basis for my career as a musician . I will use the money from my current part time job to pay for necessary equipment to create music from home , as well as saving up for a car wich will be vital to me so I can go play gigs and meet with people .
I would hope to join a band whilst establishing my own skills in media and music performance to perform as a solo artist . I would also importó e my journalism skills learning about interviewing and the radio etc

MEDIUM TERM:
my medium term goals is to create content on the media ( YouTube) and be in a position where I can get small gigs and where people are contacting me to perform ( from my website )  as well as me having to contact others to perform. I would like to travel and blog my experiences . Possibly get an internship on the side at a radio station .

LONG TERM :
In the long term I hope to become an established creator / musician / journalist  getting high paid gigs and also interviewing artists and other people about their music or other topics .

HARD SKILLS :
singing
guitar
setting up drum kit
acting
dance
SOFT SKILLS
teamwork
friendliness
