I am going to market myself as a  Singer Songwriter and lead singer for Wet paint and solo artist . I plan on getting more gigs to advertise my music potentially at local, pubs and festivals. I want to make a single and make a video to promote it .

practice bio - 

Scarlet grew up in a very musical family , not once was there ever silence in their home . Karaoke was a family hobby we always had at least two karaoke machines . 

Today we were asked t think of a logo for ourselves i came up with this design : 

Its an s shaped arrow ( scarlet ) 

I believe this is representative of the lack of stability in life and would want my music to represent the same , i wouldn't my music to sound the same.

I like that the logo is very bold its very representative of her powerful vocal skill and unmasked lyrical content . Her first name is bolder then her second , as her fans tend to only use her first name when talking about her , this makes her seem less formal and gives of a more friendly and familiar vibe. Her logo is just her name im not sure if i would do this personally , at least not my full name ,as i feel id rather have a some kind of picture or something less wordy for my logo. 

 Taylor swift uses her signature as her logo , this is very reresentiative of her as she is known for her personal  lyric writing so the fact her logo is her hand wriiten signature goes well with her artist personality.  Furthermore the fact it’s her logo means it’s unique to any other kind of font , it can’t be relplicated, I like this as it represents her music as being original .

WEEK 1   

This week I focused on Sending emails to and contacting people for gigs and oppurtunities I believed this to be  a good thing to start with as it allowed time for them to respond to me hopefully in the next few weeks and I can then put that in my blog . I made a checklist of the people I needed to contact : 

I saw Mark stidston in my work today and decided to go over and talk to him about any other oppurtunities my plan was to send him an email however as I saw him in person decided that would be a better opportunity . I used communication skills to go over and chat to him about any upcoming potential gigs as I have new music that I want to promote and playing it at a gig would be a good marketing for it ,   and he said he'd email me : 

I replied to him asking him about the if they would provide a PA system and he said that it is provided . 

Ive agreed to do the gig and this will be a great way to promote my New original songs and I can tell them to have listen to my song on Soundcloud furthermore I will be a supporting a female fronted three piece , this is good for networking as I will be able to meet other musicians and talk about my music with them . 

He emailed me again telling me I would have around a 45 minute slot which means I'll have to prepare around 9 - 10 songs  .

Today I decided to talk to my neighbour Pauline . I know she has a friend that owns pub and decided to ask her if they would like any musicians to provide some entertainment . She said she would ask and send me a message if about it when she could . 

She sent a message to my mum as she didn't have my WhatsApp , She asked what genre I would play , how much im charging and what songs id play. 

I replied with a list of songs I can perform and asked how long my slot would be .

I am going to push my luck a bit and see about venues in Bristol to perform at . 

Unfortunately the venues I contacted were 18 + . 

I decided not to run my own gig as under time schedule and other personal issues i'm already under a lot of pressure at the moment .

This is good as it is  more publicity for my song and has increased my methodological skills in communication  as i knew to tell my dad to mention the fact I was a performer to the guy wihtought actually asking him if I could perform and seeming pushy . 

Lastly I contacted Radio nine springs as I thought it would be a good chance to perform my songs live on radio : 

He contacted me saying that he could only take recorded material which , unfortunately my song isn't .However he did recommend the 'Community Show ' which i'm assuming i'll be able to play live on as he said it would be a better fit for me . He said that he had set up a contact between the show host and Sophie Goggs , my friends mum , however I asked him if he could send the show hosts email over to me as id rather have a first hand communication with the person  so Im more aware of what going and is good for networking . 

WEEK 2: 

WEBSITE CREATION : 

This week I wanted to start making my website I decided I would look at other artists that I liked websites and magpie ideas from them . I used WIX a free website creation platform I would have to learn the ins and outs of six before I can start creating my website so I did the WIX tutorials today to learn how to use it . I wanted to look at a website of a musicians that I aspire to so I looked at renforshort's website. 

I like the simplicity of it and how she's used one picture of herself as the backgrond instead of lots of different photos and and elements the one image with the grain effect  and the minimal other elements on the page make it a very eye catching page . 

I want to use the idea of the on picture and also I really like the grain effect she's added onto the picture it gives it a vintage and wiry type look that I find quite appealing . 

This site only has one page and no other photos only links to her social and music platforms I think this an effective way to have a website ,however , as this is  for my assignment I think its probably better I add more photos /videos and other elements onto my website too. 

I checked out The neighbourhoods website and there was actually kinda similar to renforshorts with th one image on the front page . After looking at more artists websites this seemed like a similarity most of them shared . 

The neighbourhood had their upside down house logo on the corner of their website page . They also used the grainy effect on their phot which I really like . 

I like the idea of having a logo as it's good for merch . I eventually want to get merch,  to promote myself as it's a very good way to make money while marketing yourself , especially when  you're  a developing artist  . I probably won't be able to do it for the assignment due to the constraint of time and me having to focus on recording my original , but, In the future I do plan to start making some  pin badges . To be able to do this however I would like a Logo . 

So I went onto Canva and made this logo

I decided to use a moth as a logo as its easy to put on things like pin badges and I like the symbolism that comes with the moth and also how I feel its slightly more original then a bird or butterfly. 

I have started creating my Home page for my website I used a photo of me on the day of one of festival gigs which I liked and added the grain effect which I magpied  from the previous websites I had looked at . Then I added links to my instagram , TikTok and YouTube . 

I now needed to make, a new page for a bio , to tell my audience more about me . 

I was stuck on what to say and the Generate AI text button started to look very tempting however I decided to just write it up myself I wrote about people that inspire me a little bit about me and my music. 

Then I needed to think about adding photos and video . I therefore decide to add a gallery page to my website : 

 

I touched up the fonts  colours and other elements  of my website .  And I added my phone number and Email to the bottom corner of my home page so that people can contact me .

I have now greatly improved my six skills and can navigate my way around most parts of the platform . 

WEEK 3 : 

I decided to start promoting my song on social platforms such as Instagram ,  TikTok and Youtube . 

Ive never made a Youtube video before I wanted to just be simple my insporation came from the old camilla cabello , Shawn mendes and Alessia Cara videos . 

I had to make the YouTube video on a budget therefore I used my phone camera . I found a nice spot at home to record in my shed and shot a video . 

After doing this I edited the lighting on the YouTube video editor and trimmed it down to keep the best bits .

I used the YouTube editor as Adobe was quite a lot of money and my pay check wasn't in . I then uploaded it .

I put this video on my main Instagram story and on my music account - I got over 200 views from posting on my story . And have asked other people to share it around so I will get more views . 

DAY 3 . 

Today I decided to make a tik Tok to promote my new song. I have never used tik Tok before but I know that it's obviously a very big platform especially for musicians so decided I might as well jump on it .  I made myself an account , used the footage of my YouTube video and edited it in the tik Tok editor  to make it seem more like a tik tok than a normal video . I added my song title and put the link for my YouTube video into my bio for people to go and check it out

Ive got some good analytics on the tik Tok video with people commenting on it and saying that they like it. 

Day 4 : 

I decided to use Today to work on my Canva skills . I wanted to make myself a logo and also Ive been put in charge of making a poster for the Red Nose Day gig . This a gig I can use to promote my song . 

I made this poster and put my name on it so as to promote the fact I would be playing I shared it around on socials and got other people to do the same . 

I can gladly say my canvas skills have improved a lot from going this poster as I did use a template and did it from scratch to challenge myself . 

Furthermore I learned how to make qr codes and found a free qr code creation platform . I used this to make the qr code for the charity we are raising money for.  

I decide for I could could make a poster and ask my friend ,who's family own a little shop, to put it on their board to advertise it my friends said she'd put it on their pin board for me  : 

I made a qr code that takes you to my website and put it on the poster , I thought this was good for promoting myself . 

I don't  expect for much to come from this poster but its still good as it helped develop my communication skills by asking if I could put it up and also my canva and qr code making skills (marketing.) 

It's been a few days since I put the poster up and surprisingly I have had a response to it . My friends dad  actually runs a local festival and he saw the poster in the shop asked my friend who put it up , she told him about me and he said he knew my dad which me and my friend didn't realise. He later text my dad about offering me a  spot at the ale and cider festival he runs : 

This will allow me to sing and talk about my song in front of a festival of people wich is very good for promoting . It's towards the end of April so by then I might even be able to make some pin badges or something as merch . 

UNPLUGGED 

This week is unplugged our college gig I will be performing my original in front of over 100 people 

I have been helping to promote and market this by sharing around the poster on my story and I also promoted it at the Red Nose Day Gig where I talked about it before performing . 

I was given an array of different jobs such as being apart of the cake teams and baking cakes to raise extra money . Running the practise day and also being at the door to collect donations and hand out programmes. 

I was put in charge of the practise day where I had to figure out what rooms we were using and the times of everything I made a checklist so as to keep things organised and know the running order fro the day : 

I have been worried about the practise day as I do not have the time to run it , the gig is this Thursday and I really need to focus on the recording of my original song . My mistake here is that I have put too much on myself and my constraint is the time and also the amount of tasks that need doing . 

I had to send an email Dan ( my tutor )  telling him I couldn't run the practise day . 

He responded to me saying that I only needed to make the checklist ,which I did - I think there was a miscommunication between us where I thought he wanted me to watch over everyone and run the day myself. 

The next thing was the baking team all said they were too busy to make cakes the day before the event and too be honest so am I i still need to get my recording finished but all the rooms are being taken by other people and people that I have needed to be in haven't been in so I have fallen behind . 

We sent an email to the tutors apologising and that we will not be able to make cakes for the gig . 

This week has taught me not to put too much on myself and has developed my skill in being responsibility and how too much of it can be bad . 

I have been helping out with a music video shoot wich I will right up later but it has allowed me to branch out and make friends with  people In the media department I know we needed people to video the gig  for the strode live Instagram so this meant we had to contact the media department . I also sent private messages  to the media friends I made on the music video shoot and both of them said that they would do it. 

My final role for unplugged was to be on the door collecting donations and handing out programmes . My name was in the programme and it said the songs I was doing next to my name. I managed to raise about £15 of donations which I thought was pretty ok . 

During the night Tom , my media friend , told me that the lighting wasn't going well with the camera footage I had to communicate this to Jess who was running lighting so she could change it .

 Tonight I performed my original Haven : 

By the end of this week I managed to record a demo version of my new song Haven and I released it on Spotify I realised under the time pressure I went going get it mixed and done the way I wanted it to be especially as I was doing it all by myself withought a producer . I trieed my best under the constraints that were placed on my head and still managed to make and record an original song release it on Soundcloud , even if it is just a demo version , and make a video to promote It.

Other things I have had to help Market : 

In the last few weeks the college was contacted by a pretty famous Swedish Band called Honne . They have over 100,00,000 million views on a couple of their music videos have sold out the O2 twice ! They wanted to shoot an apart of their music video in the college and my tutor said they'd like some runners to help them when filming for work experience . It would be a great learning experience for seeing how music videos made , music videos are massive in marketing and getting a first hand insight and helping out on set with on his a great way to boost my knowledge and skills with marketing and promotional skills . Furthermore , this is a great way to get contacts and a chance for networking ! They are bringing over two directors from LA to film the shoot which is very cool .

   I asked to be a runner and dan told me to email the director so I emailed him 

I now have the contact of the director and have emailed him. 

DAY1 : 

Today I met the media students I will be working with there Bothe very nice and its good to start making fiends with the people in the media as I might need them for a music video or promotional plan plan at some point . 

I met the crew who all seemed lovely the videographers from LA had told me they had just did a video with Coldplay wich I thought was sick . A constraint wich very much worked in my favour was that there actors from LA didnt fly in so they just used volunteers from the college I volunteered as its an opppurtunity to be in a music video thats almost guaranteed over 100,000,000 million views as they said it was going to be their best music video yet and they already had videos with those analytics . I was in 3 different scenes . This is great promotion and networking as musician and as an actress as I can now put on my acting portfolio I acted in a music video and its good experience as a musician to see how the process works and also to be  on a video that will be watched and recognised by millions . 

DAY 2: 

The next day I had to go to Odcombe to continue filming go couldn't be there the entire day tho . Phoebe ( the lead singers wife) sent me an email about the Tim schedule for the day and that I had to be at the  farm for around 4 pm . It was originally 3 but as they were running late had to change . 

On this day I helped take behind the scenes footage they said they'd use to make a bts video for their music video . I would upload it but im not allowed to share any of the footage till the videos out . 

Unfortunately as I had work on third day I couldn't make it to the last shoot but i said bye to everyone and got the LA peoples Instagram and also made fiends with the media students who said they'd be down for collaborating with me and doing a music video if I wanted to do one at some point,  I also  have the emails of the director and main actress in the music video . 

CONCLUSION 

Overall I would say my marketing and promotion has gone quite well I have managed to hit my main target of making a song an making a video to promote which I have . 

 As well as emailing around and networking with people I already know for potential gigs , such as Mark stidston and my neighbour,   I have also reached out to new people such as the people from the music video shoot , the media students , and my friends dad who I had no idea ran a festival . From my networking I have managed to bag myself 2 definite gigs and one potential one . Furthermore I would be payed for them and with the money I hope to make myself some merch  ( pin badges or something cheap I can make a lot of ) with my new logo I have made . 

I have promoted my original song Haven at 2 different gigs now that I have helped promote whether by using my newly formed canva skills to make a poster and sharing it on social media or just by communicating to people about it .

The last few week have taught me skills and boosted my confidence in a lot of different areas such as bouncing songs from logic to blogger , creating a website , Networking and communication . 

I have also learned more about the way I want to market myself and the type of audience I want to bring in ,  I quite enjoyed making the YouTube videos and now plan to start making them more consistently and I will start using tik Tok more too as they tend to get  a lot of views . I posted my tik Tok on a couple days ago and it already has over 300 views and comments , someone aid it was ' so good !' 

I had quite a few constraints over the course of this project for example ive had to attend three funerals over the last few weeks ; 2 of them landed on the day we had to book rooms so I was always last with booking rooms putting me behind so much so I started coming in on Mondays , are day off.  Its been really difficult recording and mixing as I did it myself which wasn't what I originally wanted ,however , all the producers on the course were always busy doing something else  and ,yes, I did in fact ask them . I have been juggling loads of different roles and extra work in between trying to get my personal project done as well for example the music video shoot wich although was good for networking and learning new skills in producing did set me back in my recording process as I had to mis a day on Friday . 

In the future I plan to finish my recording of my song and release It on an Ep . I would like to develop my website so it had more interactive features such as maybe a game .

Now I am friends with the a couple of the media peoples I would also  once my song is recorded work on a music video they say if I wanted it simple it would tatke them less then a week so I feel like that could be a good project to work on in the summer when I have more time . 

Furthermore , like I said before I plan to make pin badges to promote myself but for immediate future I need to just focus on recording .
